III. Instrument Structure:
The instrument consists primarily of six components: the telescope, magnetic compass assembly, horizontal circle assembly, vertical circle assembly, leveling assembly, and laser sight. See the figure. Telescope 2 for 16 It is a double-inversion, internally focused type and can be adjusted in the vertical plane. 360 °Rotatable, with a built-in reticle for aiming and distance measurement. A top-center plumb point is provided on the laser sight, making it suitable for mine surveys that use the roof as the reference datum.
The magnetic compass assembly consists of a magnetic needle and a dial. 14 , steering wheel 15 and magnetic needle 16 It is composed primarily for the measurement of magnetic azimuth.
The horizontal circle assembly consists of a horizontal circle. 11 and cursor 10 It is composed primarily for the measurement of horizontal angles.
The vertical circle assembly serves not only as the telescope’s azimuthal mounting but also houses a vertical circle that rotates in tandem with the telescope, primarily for measuring vertical angles.
Anping Institution 13 It features a ball-and-socket design, primarily for mounting on a tripod, and allows for flexible adjustment, enabling quick and convenient leveling of the instrument.
For ease of operation, the instrument is equipped with a horizontal-axis stop screw. 3 and fine-tuning spiral 4 , vertical-axis stop screw 12 and fine-tuning spiral 8 , used for precise adjustment in both the horizontal and vertical directions of the instrument.
Instrument external dimensions (length × width × height): 130 times 110 times 230 ( mm )
Instrument weight: 0.82kg
IV. Instructions for Use:
1. Basic Operations:
Securely mount the instrument on a tripod, aligning the instrument’s upper centering point with the reference mark at the mine shaft top, or align the plumb bob at the tripod’s apex with the ground reference. Then set all adjustable components of the instrument to their mid-position and adjust the leveling mechanism until the bubbles in both spirit levels are centered.
Rotate the telescope’s diopter ring to bring the reticle crosshairs into sharp focus. Then, turn the instrument to roughly align the telescope with the target or leveling rod, and finally adjust the focusing wheel to achieve a clear view of the target.
2. Azimuth measurement:
After the instrument is leveled, rotate the magnetic needle stop screw counterclockwise. 6 Release the magnetic needle, rotate the instrument to align the vertical wire of the telescope’s reticle with the target, and after the magnetic needle comes to rest, the magnetic north pole (the end not wrapped with copper wire) will indicate the reading on the magnetic compass dial. 14 The degree indicated on the scale is the azimuth of the target, with the magnetic needle’s north pole pointing toward the compass dial. 15 The area on top is the target direction.
3. Horizontal angle measurement:
After the instrument is leveled, turn the zero-setting knob. 9 Switch to 0 → BACK Rotate the instrument upward; horizontal circle 11 on the “ 0 “Automatic line engraving and horizontal vernier” 10 of the “ 0 “Align the刻线, aim at the target, then turn the zero-setting knob to…” FREE Rotate the instrument upward and use the telescope to sight another target; directly read the horizontal angle between the two targets from the horizontal circle. The vernier scale allows the measured value to be accurate to 5 ′。
4. Vertical angle measurement:
After the instrument is leveled, adjust the telescope; once the target is aligned with the horizontal wire of the reticle, the angle can be read directly from the vertical circle, and the vernier scale allows the measured value to be accurate to 5 ′。
5. Distance measurement:
Place the leveling staff at the target, adjust the telescope to obtain a clear view of the staff graduations, and read the scale values enclosed by the upper and lower crosshairs on the staff. Multiply this reading by the stadia constant to determine the distance from the instrument to the staff. During measurement, for easier reading, the horizontal-axis fine-adjustment screw may be turned slightly. 4 , so that one of the horizontal threads aligns with an integer mark on the scale.
6 Use of laser sights:
Press the switch button to turn on the power; a red laser beam is emitted from the lens. Press the switch button again to cut the power, and the laser beam goes out. The laser beam is parallel to the optical axis of the telescope, and the distance between the two optical axes is 32mm。
Turn on the laser sight, aim the telescope horizontally at a point ahead, and the laser spot will be above the aiming point. 32mm At the location, when measuring with an inclination angle α, the distance between the two optical axes is L For:

The instrument may develop deviations due to long-distance transportation, prolonged use, or vibration. Before use, calibrate it using the target sheet provided with the instrument. The adjustment procedure is as follows: first, level the instrument, then place the target sheet in front of the instrument. 10 Except for the area outside the target, the instrument’s telescope should be roughly level with its optical axis. Observe through the telescope and adjust the fine-tuning mechanism to align the telescope’s reticle with the crosshairs on the target paper. Verify that the center of the laser spot coincides with the center of the circular ring on the target paper’s crosshairs. If there is any deviation, adjust the adjustment screw at the rear of the laser sight’s lens to bring the laser spot precisely onto the center of the ring.
V. Instrument Maintenance and Precautions:
- The varying magnetic dip angles across the globe cause magnetic needles to tilt, necessitating adjustments to the magnetic needle’s N extreme or S A highly balanced suspension wire (made of non-magnetic material) is used to keep the magnetic needle level; by adjusting the number of turns or the position of the suspension wire, the needle can remain horizontal regardless of the region.
- When using the instrument, handle it with care to avoid impacts and severe vibrations, as these can compromise measurement accuracy.
- After use, the magnetic needle should be locked to prevent wear on the pivot tip.
4. Do not look directly at the laser source to avoid eye injury;
5. Under no circumstances shall the battery be replaced when operating in an environment containing flammable gases.
6. Remove the batteries when the device will not be used for an extended period. ;
7. The instrument should be stored in a dry, clean environment to prevent mold growth on optical components and corrosion of metal parts.
8. During use, the surfaces of telescope optical components should be kept free from contamination; furthermore, after any maintenance or disassembly, the instrument must be recalibrated before it can be used.
9. Please contact our Sales Department to purchase replacement batteries when the current ones are depleted.
