Harbin Optical Instruments Factory Co., Ltd. was founded in 1966. It is a large-scale, specialized manufacturer in China that integrates research, development, production, and distribution of geodetic instruments, and is recognized as a national high-tech enterprise, a time-honored manufacturing enterprise in Heilongjiang Province, a co-developer of the national standard for calibration of geological compasses in China, and a co-author of the industry standard for handheld forest height gauges issued by the Ministry of Forestry of China. The company has been awarded such titles as one of the first “Hidden Champions” in Heilongjiang Province and a “Specialized, Refined, Distinctive, and Innovative” enterprise. The “Harbin” brand compass has consecutively received prestigious honors such as “Heilongjiang Famous Brand Product” and “Harbin Famous Brand Product” for many years.
The company centers on the production of a comprehensive line of compass instruments, specializing in the R&D, manufacturing, and sales of geological compasses, intelligent theodolite compasses, laser electronic distance-measuring compasses, laser rangefinders with positioning capabilities, laser pointing devices, area measurement instruments, and electronic altimeters and angle-measuring instruments. Its products are exported both domestically and internationally, with a domestic market share of over 95% for professional compasses.
The company boasts strong technological capabilities, having established the “Heilongjiang Provincial Enterprise Technology Center,” which serves the “Heilongjiang Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Resource Sharing Service Platform.” It has also forged robust collaborative relationships with leading domestic R&D institutions and higher education establishments. To date, the company has obtained more than 70 patents, with numerous product technologies filling critical domestic gaps and providing reliable technical services and support for national resource surveys and explorations in fields such as geology, forestry, coal mining, and agriculture.
