DZH-30 Model Altimeter Instruction Manual
This instrument is a digital height-measuring device, suitable for measuring tree height in forestry surveys. It can also be used in applications requiring distance, angle, and height measurement, such as power line maintenance, tower inspection, freight handling, telecommunications, and railway operations.
Precautions:
1. During measurement, the front end of this product emits a laser beam. Under no circumstances should the instrument’s front end be aimed at the human eye to avoid eye injury!
2. If the lens at the instrument’s front end becomes dirty, gently wipe it with a clean, soft cloth. Do not touch the lens surface with your fingers to avoid damaging the lens coating.
3. When the reflective surface of the object under test is poor or ambient lighting is strong, please place a reflector on the object.

II. Instrument Functions
⑴ Ranging and angle measurement (AD) function. It can simultaneously measure angle, slant distance, and horizontal distance.
(2) Two-point height measurement (2H) function. This function is used in situations where at least one of the points to be measured—either the lowest or the highest—has a well-reflective laser surface. Point “1” and Point “2” represent the actual heights to be measured.
(3) Three-point height measurement (3H) function. This function is used in situations where neither the lowest nor the highest point of the height to be measured has a good laser-reflective surface. In such cases, a suitable reflective surface is selected anywhere along the vertical line of the height to be measured as the “1st” measurement point, while the “2nd” and “3rd” points correspond to the actual height to be measured.
(4) Aim using a laser sight.
⑸. Powered by a rechargeable lithium battery, the instrument can operate continuously for approximately 8 hours on a full charge; if no operation is performed for 5 minutes, the instrument will automatically shut down.
⑹. Can store and view 996 altitude data points.
(7) Height compensation for handheld measurements.
⑻. The ranging offset can be set.
⑼. It can be used either handheld or mounted; when mounted, it must be used with a tripod.

* The maximum altitude measurement range is limited by the actual measurement distance and the maximum elevation angle.
IV. How to use
4.1 , Usage

⑴ Press and hold the power button for approximately 3 seconds to turn on the instrument. The instrument will automatically enter the two-point height measurement (2H) mode. A brief press of the mode button will cycle through the “3H,” “2H,” and “AD” modes.
(2) The handheld method is shown in Figure 2: align the target object with the sight at the top of the instrument, extend your arm fully, and rotate your arm as the radius of rotation to switch the aiming point and complete the measurement.
⑶. The fixing method is shown in Figure 3: first set the instrument to “Fixed Mode,” then use the included connecting rod to secure the instrument to the tripod, and complete the measurement by rotating the tripod’s pan-and-tilt head in the vertical direction.
4.2 , Two-point height measurement (2H)
⑴. Aim the instrument’s sight at the first point (either the highest or lowest) on the reflective surface whose height is to be measured, ensuring the instrument remains stationary. Briefly press the measurement button and wait until the number displayed on the “tree” icon on the screen changes to “2” (accompanied by a “beep”). Then aim the instrument at the second point and briefly press the measurement button again; the screen will then display the height of the object being measured—the height difference between points “1” and “2”.
⑵ Press the measurement button briefly to re-enter the measurement mode.
4.3 3. Three-point height measurement (3H)
⑴ Align the instrument’s sight with the first point on the plumb line at the height to be measured, where the reflector surface is optimal. Keep the instrument stationary, briefly press the measurement button, and wait until the number displayed on the “tree” icon on the screen changes to “2” (accompanied by a “beep”). Then aim the instrument at the second point; briefly press the measurement button again, and the number on the “tree” icon will change to “3”. Finally, aim the instrument at the third point and briefly press the measurement button once more; the screen will then display the height of the object being measured—the height between points “2” and “3”.
⑵ Press the measurement button briefly to re-enter the measurement mode.
4.4 , Ranging, Angle Measurement (AD)
According to the screen display, aim the instrument’s sighting device at the target, keep the instrument stationary, briefly press the measurement button, and wait for the screen to show the distance and angle. SD stands for slant distance, and HD stands for horizontal distance.
4.5 , Menu Operations
⑴ In measurement mode, a short press of the E key will enter the main menu.
⑵. After entering the menu, use the up and down keys to navigate the options; press and hold the E key to confirm, and tap the E key briefly to return.
⑶. In any menu, a short press of the “Measure” button will enter measurement mode.
⑷. Select
⑸. Select “Height Compensation,” then press and hold the E key to enter. Use the up key to adjust the value, the down key to move the cursor, press and hold the E key to confirm the setting, and press the E key briefly to return. This function is only available in “Handheld Mode” and uses the user’s height as the compensation value.
⑹. Select
⑺ Select , then press and hold the E key to enter. The current storage status will be displayed. Press and hold the “Up” key to clear all data, and press and hold E to enter the data display mode. Use the “Up” and “Down” keys to page through the data.
⑻. Factory calibration is not accessible to users.
4.6 , Power supply
⑴. Charging is performed via a USB interface at a charging voltage of 5V.
⑵ Press and hold the E key to enter the main menu, where the battery level and charging status will be displayed. When the device is powered off and charging, a short press of the power button will display the current battery level.
⑶. After use, please turn off the instrument’s power.
V. Maintenance and Servicing
⑴. Perform regular maintenance to keep the equipment clean.
(2) If the instrument is stored for an extended period, it should be charged regularly, with a full charge–discharge cycle performed every three months.
