DQL-12Z Instruction Manual for the Type-True Compass Instrument

I. Overview

Product Implementation Standard: Q/HGY05-2020

DOL-12Z The theodolite is an instrument used for orientation and surveying in various field operations. It can accurately measure azimuth, distance, horizontal angles, elevation differences, and slope angles, and is primarily employed in forest inventories, agricultural land surveys, water conservancy projects, and general engineering surveys.

II. Structure and Operating Principle

This instrument consists primarily of a magnetic compass, a leveling mechanism, an telescope, and a tripod. After the instrument is leveled, the compass needle aligns with the direction of the Earth’s magnetic field, with one of its poles pointing toward the magnetic north (the end of the copper coil serving as the needle’s south pole). By correcting for magnetic declination, the true north direction can be accurately determined, thereby enabling the measurement of any azimuth.

A magnetic compass mainly consists of a freely rotating magnetic needle and a… 360o It consists of a circular scale dial with degree markings and a housing. The housing is capable of moving relative to the bracket. 360 Full 360-degree rotation.

When using this instrument, the first step is to ensure that it is in a horizontal position. To achieve this, two long, strip-shaped spirit levels are installed inside the compass, and a universal ball-and-socket joint is incorporated into the lower part of the housing. Together, these components form a leveling adjustment system that enables the instrument to be quickly and accurately leveled.

This instrument is equipped with 12 A binocular telescope consists of an objective lens, a tube, an erecting prism, and an eyepiece. The telescope has a vertically pivoting mount that allows it to be tilted up and down. 50 Rotation of the angle. The telescope enables omnidirectional observation of distant targets. An erecting prism system is incorporated within the telescope tube, producing an upright image on the reticle regardless of its vertical or horizontal orientation. As a result, the observer always sees a true, accurate, and undistorted image of the object being observed, making observation and measurement exceptionally convenient and efficient while completely eliminating the inconvenience caused by inverted images.

IV. Installation and Usage

(1) Before taking measurements, first select the instrument’s location, set up the tripod, mount the compass on the tripod, and use the tripod legs to make a rough adjustment of the instrument’s level.

(2) Use a universal ball swivel mount for fine leveling.

(3) Loosen the set screw at the bottom of the compass box, then horizontally rotate the compass and vertically pivot the telescope tube to align the telescope with the target.

(4) Adjust the eyepiece so that the crosshairs inside the scope are clearly visible. ( Eyepiece Clarity Adjustment )

(5) Adjust the focus wheel on the telescope tube until the target is in sharp focus; at this point, measurements of distance, height, and horizontal angle can be taken.

(6) Loosen the magnetic needle stop screw, and the telescope can be used in conjunction with the compass to measure the azimuth of the target.

V. Maintenance and Precautions

(1) The instrument shall be stored in a clean, dry storage room free from corrosive gases, ferromagnetic materials, and magnetic field interference.

(2) When the instrument is not in use, the magnetic needle should be securely locked to prevent wear on the pivot tip.

(3) The micrometer mechanism of the instrument, as well as the vertical and horizontal axes, must not be disassembled at will.

(4) During use, take strict care to avoid impacts and prevent rainwater, dust, and other contaminants from entering.

(5) The operating ambient temperature of this instrument is -25 degrees Celsius ~45 °C.
